Little Bit

  From the very beginning, he chose me, not the other way around. Bit was not even the puppy we were going to see. In a sea of puppies, Bit ran past them all, through a water trough, just to meet me at the perimeter of a small caged fence. Soaking wet and excited, he let me know, I was the friend he wanted to take care of.

  Bit stayed by my side when I was injured in a motorcycle accident, sitting with me in my wheelchair everyday. For the past 10 years, he was with me 24/7, and I could not be luckier to have had so much of his time.

 

  As gentle as the afternoon breeze, he was always reverent to me. A devoted friend, every day, of his so very short life. A peacemaker, a guardian, a sidekick, a navigator, he was the best friend a man could ever wish to have.  

 

  When it comes to friendship, I definitely got the best end of the bargain. He was a happy companion, with unmatched loyalty.  Words like special, awesome and amazing cannot even begin to describe this truly wonderful and gentle soul. Perfection in every way, I didn’t deserve such a great friend.

  He only wanted my attention, affection, and love. Peaceful and content, my friend was like no other dog I have ever known. He will never be forgotten, and I know some day we will meet again.

 

  I miss him everyday, and I know he misses me too.  My friend retired on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2024. He would have been 14 years old on Jan 11.
